Racing

 

Sailing is a wonderful sport, pastime, hobby, or social activity - and it can be any or all of those depending upon what you want to get out of it.  Once you have learned how to sail or bought a sailboat, you might want to get together with others to have some fun or some competition or both. LWSA places a high value on fun , social sailing, as well as on good, cordial sportsmanship among those of our members and friends who sail.

 

To this end, LWSA's commitment to teaching sailing in our sailing school and adult and private lessons is matched by a commitment to provide the venue and social contacts for people who want to sail on Lake Winnipesaukee. We believe that promotion of the sport of sailing is an important component to appreciating the wind and water, the environment of our lakes and seas, safety on the water, and the opportunity for lifelong pursuit of a sport that often begins with youth classes on summer at the lake.

 

LWSA provides three pathways for individual kids or adults, and families to participate in racing and group sailing. Learn more about them

J/80 Fleet 1 - Lake Winnipesaukee hosts a fleet of J/80 type boats which sail against and with each other in single class events. Whether you are an owner of a J/80 or wish to volunteer as a crew member on someone's J/80, there is always lots of action from spring through autumn.

Mixed Fleet Racing ("PHRF") - Mixed Fleet is all about bringing together different types of sailboats to sail together and race against each other utilizing a handicap system known as PHRF. Whatever type of boat you have, there is a way to join the fun.

​

Youth Racing - Youth Racing is offered on Lake Winnipesaukee as part of courses at the sailing school or by Youth Racing Club. There are also youth regattas that LWSA young sailors participate in every summer in New England, a few of which are in New Hampshire, including our very own Winnipesaukee Annual Regatta (W.A.R.).
