This gem of a catboat was built in 2014 and sailed 6 times according to the donor. The boat, sail, and trailer are absolutely in like-new condition!

 

The Oyster River Catboat was specifically designed for the popular family boatbuilding program at the University of New Hampshire.  Over the past 14 years, 78 of them have been built by families under the guidance of experienced craftsmen.

 

This boat was built in 2014 by a  father and son, and when you see it, you will agree that it does not look like an amateur job!    After using it on and off for a few years, the son “aged out” of it and generously donated it to our sailing school. Now it is time for it to find a new owner who will enjoy its sailing qualities and its traditional good looks.

 

THE OYSTER RIVER CATBOAT

This growing fleet of beautiful Cat Boats originated at UNH’s Seagrant Family Boatbuilding Program and shows a strong New England style.   Overall length is 11' 4" with a beam of 5'. Draft is 30" with the dagger board down, and less than 6" with it up. The wide beam and flat bottom make it very stable. It easily carries two adults or even three when rowing.

 

The spars are solid spruce. The 60 sq. ft. sail in a Gunter configuration makes her a sprightly sailer. Construction is marine grade ¼" plywood over 5/8" plywood frames and transom. Fastenings are stainless or bronze, and the sail is professionally made.  Modern adhesives virtually assure watertight integrity. The hull weighs about 120 pounds and can be transported car-top, in a pickup, or on a small trailer. The floorboards and sail rig, which are removable and shorter than the boat, are easily stored in the boat or separately for transport.

Oars and oarlocks are included so the boat can be rowed when there is no wind.   You can see in the picture that the trailer is immaculate.  It even comes  with a spare tire!  The donor has $2500 invested in this boat.
